10 Most Depressed States in the USA

There are many unions down there. Pipefitters, boilermakers, IBEW, OPEIU, UFSPSO, IAM, and about 9 others. Around 80% of the approximate 6000 workers at the facility are unionized in that right-to-work state.

I think this is important to note that despite a heavy pocket on trade unionism the state still struggles economically. The causal link between lack of union members in economically depressed areas is not to strong based on what's been presented here. It's a good recruiting drive talking point though.

Take MI for example. They are a one industry state for the most part and when the car business catches cold Michigan gets pneumonia. Yet it is one of the most heavily unionized states in the USA. Michigan has tried mightily to break it's dependence upon the Auto Industry and Manufacturing in general but the pace has been agonizingly slow and the same could be said for the parts of PA where Big Steel was king. Some of those towns/cities have yet to fully recover.

Much of the blame can be laid at the feet of the Crony Capitalists and Banksters as the value of the business take precedence over the community and there was a time where that wasn't the case.
