Aircraft maint issues

These are probably for the LUS side of the operation.

So they're hired by LUS and will be represented by the TWU? DFW is a TWU station, correct?

No wonder the TWU allows this. New hire occupational seniority at DFW instead of allowing TWU seniority the opportunity to get back home to the area.

What a scam this association is!

Our Local President is telling us to where your t-shirt. That should SCARE the hell out of the company and make them give us everything we want. Is he serious. . Why dont He just tell the truth. We dont have the Balls to make the company give us what we want. We should change the name of the union to.

Let's not forget how many months were lost due to a law suit against the ASSociation.

unreal to hire off the street. When guys need to get back home! what a scam! what does GP have to say about this?

I'm looking through jobs at AA.com and find this:

https://jobs.aa.com/job/Ft-Worth-A&P-Mechanic-TX-76101/391920000/

Is AA hiring off the street for A&P Mechanics at DFW? I checked and there are over 300 on the transfer list to DFW and 200 to DWH.

Aren't transfers supposed to be come before hiring off the street?

What's up TWU?

I was told that this is a misprint. It is not for a hangar 3 mechanic. It is for 3 USAIR mechanics. It is suppose to be edited and reposted and I agree that this should go to the transfer list.

Amazing !!!

So, 3 US guys for DFW? Are they IAM or TWU? If they hire on as IAM, after their 90 day probation, they could be bumped by a senior IAM guy. But if they are hired by US, under the TWU, and junior, no one can touch them?

A strange story from the Fleet side as told to me:
My Fleet friend was junior man, full time, Fleet. The company abolished his job and told him, the street or commute to PHL. His choice. No part time. He took the street.

They brought in 3 part time, laid off, former TWU, AA guys, in PIT to take his place.

The wackiness of this Association is amazing. On both sides.

Nah he would have been given the choice to downgrade to part time or would have been called back as part time before they hired anyone

No, as swamt said, it's still basic composite work. But from what I was told the prep sanding and laying up is just more involved. It's not rocket surgery or anything. And like structues work, some guys are going to be good and some are going to be hacks.

Yes. We always have our hacks in both structures and composites. Prepping is more involved. I was just trying to get across that a good sheet metal person with attention to detail and quality (perfectionist) will pick up composites rather easily and will get comfortable with it a lot more quickly than say a a systems mechanic.

That looks like we are starting to get into specializations to me.

I truly believe the future of aviation maintenance will be specialist in their prospective fields and some fields might require a higher education level.

With complexity must come division to maintain quality.

Was talking to a TWU rep and verified we are not in sec. 6 negotiations and that we are just making one contract out of two. I reminded him that our contract is amendable in Sept. of 2018 and asked if AA will want to extend any JCBA for a few years? He said yes. I would consider this a new contract and so it should be considered section 6 negotiations. Might be a good idea to walk away and come back in Sept of 2018. I was accused of being a "Restore and more" guy and asked what was wrong with that? I want all the stuff back that we gave away fourteen years ago and counting and I also want improvements such as 401K contribution without having to match like pilots and FAs. Does that make me a bad person? It's like when PUb

Not possible as long as airlines fly aircraft to third world countries for overhaul. Kind of hard to require more education and experience from us while allowing coffee bean pickers with no education or experience to overhaul them for us. But then again I won't put anything past them trying it.

That already exists in the military. Don't look forward to that happening under the FAA anytime soon. They couldn't even get FAR part 66 done.

Shift Swaps coming to Tulsa Maintenance Base!
Utter Lunacy IMO, I wondered how management here could make this place even less efficient.

I might agree with you if American Airlines did not have a vacation and sick policy right out of the stone age.

Shift Swaps reduce lost man hours. That is a fact.
