all that is clear is that an AS employee did NOT buy a ticket with her own personal credit card.
S/he and other AS employees have been given pretty broad authority to resolve customer service issues and win against DL and the company will gladly pick up the tab.
AS' policy for both is pretty clear.
and if they really pulled something off because of a problem which DL didn't resolve, then good for them - and the agent is probably being high fived all over AS.
what is clear from this and the endless articles in the SEA business press about AS and DL is that both carriers are using whatever means they can to take their business tensions to the press.
and therefore, this won't be the last chapter - from either side.

After that hour of trying to get her situation sorted, an employee of Alaska Airlines (which partnered with Delta on the flight) took matters into her own hands, and out of her own bank account. The employee, named Judy, pulled her own credit card out and bought Thomas a flight back to Vancouver with her own money, telling her shocked coworkers that she was just paying it forward.
