AS starting move southern routes..

just says that AS is trying to build its own network where DL has fed them well. The breakup is coming and AS is trying to get what it can.

problem is that these are fairly small markets so filling a 737 every day year round with connections that LOGICALLY flow over SEA is hard to do.

SEA is just not an ideal location for a domestic hub and the local market to medium sized cities on the other side of the country is not great.

AS may carry traffic from RDU, CHS, and BNA to SEA and beyond but not a lot of it logically flows over SEA which makes their cost advantage disappear fairly quickly when they have to discount heavily in order to fill seats or carry passengers hundreds of miles out of their way.

and this just foreshadows DL's next buildup at SEA since DL will add its own flights, including more upgauging. There are still a lot of flights that are operated by large RJs that DL could upgrade - just like DL has done at LAX - without adding a lot more flights.
