Operations at all 3 NYC airports plus BOS to be suspended for 17 hours beginning 5 pm ET today.

Not sure any airline of comparable or larger size has gone to such a move to reset the operation.

B6 has had 25% or more of their system cancelled for several days with OT rates well below 50%.

Just curious if this move is indicative of larger problems at the Jblu or a pretty smart move to reset and avoid future problems.

I think this is a smart idea.  When the majority of your pilot staff has timed out, there is no point in trying to get "critical" flights in the air.  In a situation such as we are looking at right now, define critical.  And, in the long run there will be very few passengers who are truly, grievously hurt by this action.  And, if their travel is that important, they should have had a backup plan in the first place.

You get your crews rested.  You get a chance to look for damage on the equipment and get it fixed.  And maybe (unless this is the start of the end of the world), you get better weather in which to fly in a couple of days.

As of noon eastern time, 2 hours after they said they would begin to restart their operation after 17 hours of break, their on-time percentage is 46% by flightstats.com with 1/3 of their current arrivals experiencing 45 min or longer delays. Approximately 1/3 of their schedule today is cancelled.
FlightAware's delay ratio for B6 is better and closer to other carriers.
