So much for the alleged MIA to Central and South American that WF has been preaching:

Delta Airlines is adding service from its Atlanta hubhttp://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/6364423/# to Medellin and Cartagena in Colombia from 19th December 2015

Schedule as follows:

1730 ATL - MDE 2210 D 737-700
0740 MDE - ATL 1254 D 737-700

Delta is the 4th US carrier with service to MDE, but the first one to do so from a point outside of Florida.
In recent days, AM has also started service to MDE, and
Iberia will start service to the city from July.

0945 ATL - CTG 1350 Wed, Sat, Sun 737-800
1450 CTG - ATL 1910 Wed, Sat, Sun 737-700

Delta is the third carrier with service to CTG. Spirit operates service from
FLL, and JetBlue does so from FLL and JFK.

A little off topic, but I read an article just yesterday about the advantages of retiring to Medellin from the U.S.  Considering the past history of Medellin in the drug wars, this is an amazing turnaround.

great news for DL... but there is nothing here that stops DL from expanding at MIA in the future because it is announcing service from ATL.

It says that Latin America continues to grow in importance and DL continues to see growth opportunities. Colombia's economy is better off than other countries in S. America.

You do realize that ATL is the 2nd largest US carrier gateway to Latin America based on ASMs, seats offered, and Latin revenue flowing thru the hub?

I wouldn't expect that DL will ever add service to a new city from MIA before it can make it work from ATL.

DL's growth also shows how ATL is insulated from low fare competition in S. Florida which allows DL to pick off the higher yield traffic for other parts of the US.

further, the MDE service will connect to DL's Europe flights.
