Head of the JCS says ban should be lifted.

Unlike Obama's "Shove it down thier throats" policys, I agree with these 2, more informed, rational thinking people, making the decisions, being that Nobama, Reid and Belosi have ZERO military experience between them !

Both Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen asked for a year to study the impact before Congress would lift the controversial policy.

So for now....................1 NO vote !

I think you missed the point of what JCS Mullins said. He did not want the year study to see 'if' it should be lifted but rather how to implement things 'when' the ban is lifted.

Gates said change was inevitable and called for a yearlong internal study into how it would occur.

The ban must be lifted

He told the senators he understood that any change in the law was up to them. But he made it clear he believes it is time to do away with the 1993 policy, and by implication the outright ban on gay service that preceded it. Alongside Mullen, that put the Pentagon's top leadership at odds with uniformed leaders a rung or two below, as well as with and also with senior members of Congress.

"No matter how I look at the issue," Mullen said, "I cannot escape being troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens." Noting that he was speaking for himself and not for the other service chiefs, Mullen added: "For me, it comes down to integrity - theirs as individuals and ours as an institution."

That would be 3 votes against and 2 (McCain/Southwind) for the ban. I think a strong argument could be made that McCains 'no' is linked to his need for republican support to stay in office.

OH my. If this quote from McCain 2.0 is true then it would apear that he is pandering to his finacial base to get re-elected. No big surprise there as politicians would sell their mother for a vote.

McCain flip flop
"The day that the leadership of the military comes to me and says, 'Senator, we ought to change the policy,' then I think we ought to consider seriously changing it because those leaders in the military are the ones we give the responsibility to," McCain told an audience of college students during the "Hardball" college tour on MSNBC

Not sure how to re-tally the votes. Maybe it should be 2 for 1 against and 1 was for but now needs money and is against.

I'm not the least bit interested in who a soldier decides to have sex with unless it interferes with his/her ability to shoot the enemy. I'm like McCain in that when the JCS says it's fine then I'm fine. I'll defer to the experts on thing military.

You have to admit though that lifting the ban could lead to whole new meaning to the rank of "Rear Admiral"

Which McCain? The one 3 yrs ago who said it was up to the brass or the one now who says it's up to his financial donors?

I think I said, I'll defer to the JCS who are the experts IMO on things military.

McCain is a politician, so realistically it doesn't matter what he says as it's the "View Du Jour" I merely agreed with his dtatement regarding the JCS being the appropriate decision maker

i saw both and was not sure if you had read that he has flip on that issue already. My apologies.

I take it your an irregular , if I'm a regular ?

HA-HA-HA.
Very funny.

By the way, how do you like the new "spending bill" proposal ?

(Just give me a moment to DUCK before you start Throwing things via a Tantrum.)

Clinton established DADT through Executive Order, Obama could repeal it the same way. Oh, wait!

If Obama don’t repeal this soon, he may not have the votes to try again for a long long time. November will be here before you know it. Is Obama going to demand any deadline for DADT repeal or will it be another of his “no, really, soonâ€￾ promises?

Wouldn’t having openly gay members of the military offend openly Jihadi members of the military? Besides, we already have gays in the military. They’re called the Air Force (just messing with the airmen).

"The state plans to nationalise private pension funds
In fact, things have now got so bad that the state has decided to take over $29bn of the country's privately managed pension funds to get its hands on some cash."
