Jane Allen goes to UAL!

Might have to copy and paste, not too good at this computer stuff.

So what''s the scoop on Ms. Allen? Signing-on VP''s from competitors with similarly-fractious relationships with their employees doesn''t necessarily smell like a breath of fresh air to this UAL''er(though I suppose we have nowhere to go but up! )

That''s what happens to executives when there are no retention bonuses in place.

Not having the bonuses also pretty much guarantees that AA will not be able to hire any top notch executives anytime soon.

That''s what the unions wanted though.

A trained monkey must have been able to do her job then, since they replaced her with the food and beverage guy! Isn't that like a caterer?

This doesn't say a whole lot for the way things must be at HDQ right now if the veeps would rather abandon ship and go work for a bankrupt airline than stay with AA. Ponderous!

I guess it takes more than a "trained monkey" to read the Jetnet posting about Jane Allen''s replacement (see below). If you did any research at all, you would know that O''Keeffe is the "Acting" VP, and that he has done a lot more than Food and Beverage. Also, Jane Allen got a very nice promotion to go to UA, which may better explain her departure than saying anything about "the way things must be at HDQ."

Here is the Jetnet posting:

Patrick O''Keeffe has been appointed Acting Vice President - Flight Service upon Jane Allen''s resignation to become Senior Vice President - Onboard Services at United Airlines.

"We are fortunate to have Patrick with his strong background and experience ready to step in to lead our Flight Service organization during a critical time for our company," said Dan Garton, Executive Vice President - Marketing. "We thank Jane for her outstanding contributions to American, our customers and our employees during her tenure with us."

O''Keeffe was serving in Flight Service as Managing Director - Food & Beverage/Duty Free. He originally joined American in 1988 as an Analyst in Marketing Planning. He also served in Sales Planning before returning to Marketing Planning as a Manager in 1993. Two years later he was promoted to Managing Director - Marketing Planning/Customer Research. In 1997, he was appointed Managing Director - Flight Service and served in that role until he assumed his present assignment in 2000.

O''Keeffe holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from the National Institute for High Education in Limerick, Ireland, and an MBA from Rice University in Houston.

I don''t believe Jane Allen received a retention bonus.

Dont forget this is politics. Jane may have received a promotion to go to UAL, that is great if she did. We also dont know the underlying facts around her leaving either. One VP to Another, besides the money isnt much. Many times, in order to deter political feelings, heavy hitters switch jobs because they were forced out in some manner. Look at some of the Heavy''s in the bush administration. Look at Carty. Look at the guy incharge of Iraq redevelopment. You wont dare hear that they did something wrong, just that their views didnt jive with the Leader.

Hope Kudwa leaves also..................And darrah

No, Arpey didn''t get her placed at UAL. I suspect she did that all by herself.

Rats deserting a sinking ship or hopefully, Arpey is finally cleaning house of the riffraff.

When Arpey walked off the stage during the stockholder''s meeting, he mentioned something about having to meet with his "team". Janie girl found out she was not included, saw the writing on the wall, sent off her resume to UAL, and viola''! Same job, different company, and just watch in a couple of months how "great" she''ll do at UAL, with another PR release stating that reason for UAL re-filing for Chap. 11 or 7 or for the dismal figures for the quarter is because of Al-Qaeda, 9/11, or maybe because the moon was not in the proper house aligned with 7 other planets.

If you include Doug Hacker, Executive Vice President - Strategy, who was at AMR in years past, it brings to three former AMR VP''s that are now or soon will be at UAL.

That aside, I do think Ms. Allen''s addition to the UAL management team does raise some interesting questions. I think this could be seen as pure coincidence in normal times. But given the current environment at both carriers, one has got to think that Ms. Allen thinks the propect of the long-term survival of UAL are pretty good and that she''ll fare better there than at AMR. Then again it could be internal politics that made her decision easier. Time will tell.

Cheers,
Z

But the fact is that none of us know why she left, so why dream up sensational and scandalous reasons with absolutely no proof? It seems more likely that she left because she was offered a higher level job at UA than being forced out or not liking Arpey. It would seem fairly lucky to be forced out into a promotion, so why not give her the benefit of the doubt? Or is it just more fun to dream up unsubstantiated rumors and post them on a message board for promulgation?

Buzz,

I agree. My reason behind starting the thread is probably more hope that Arpey is actually doing the right thing than vp''s leaving for better jobs. Oh, well, there are obviously people that like her. Just wish some other VP''s take the high road and and jump ship.

No Executive did. But she was on the list of 45 to get just that.
