The last flight of an AA MD-80 will occur on 04Sept. It will be flight #80 from DFW to ORD. Upon completion of this flight all remaining MD-80s will be ferried to the desert storage.

A lot of people did not like the 80s, but as a flight attendant who worked First Class predominantly, I loved the MD-80. It was the only narrow-body plane in domestic service that had a decent First Class galley.

I don’t know how accurate it is but I seen a post in another group with enough non revs for that flight to fill the whole fleet of 80,s

Ya either love em or hate em. Wonder what the cycles are on that last 80 taking to the skies?

Yep, it was the same when my present airline retired a fleet type not too long ago... smart employees bought tickets as soon as they heard which flight it was going to be.

As someone who worked on mostly 80's and 757's (though I worked on just about every air frame in the fleet) at TULE I am going to be sorry to see the 80's go.

I kinda miss the Fokkers to.

I, and many others moved to overhaul after the 93' layoff, cut our teeth on the MD-80 heavy C in Tulsa. Sheetmetal was a breeze to repair compared to the 737 with no chem-mill to complicate things. Good airplane!

This link has some interesting MD-80 history that I never knew. For instance, the MD-80s were built at a plant outside St. Louis. I had always assumed they were built at a plant in California.

They were built in Long beach, California. The one thing no one mentioned was that at one time the MD80'S were also being built in China. China had a large order for MD80'S. Only 20 were built in China.
Guess it did not work as planned.

Not sure what the last 80 taking off was but this one went to TUL yesterday.

Acft 501, 82462 hrs, 44388 cycles

Probably put it on a pole out front!
