Lufthansa puts its JetBlue stake on the block

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Deutsche Lufthansa AG said Thursday it will issue a corporate bond exchangeable into shares of JetBlue Airways Corp. JBLU -4.21% , a transaction that could see Lufthansa's stake in the U.S. carrier decline to zero.


I guess that will put the Star Alliance rumor to rest, eh?

GOOD, and I dont see them gravitating to Sky Team anytime soon.
Now as for Oneworld...........hmm

LH isn't selling their stake -- they just converted it into a format that they could borrow against. And make no mistake --- LH is looking at a break even year at best, something they're not exactly excited about, and this action just shows that they're getting ready to burn any excess furniture they can find right now...

Jetblue seems to be happy playing all sides, so I wouldn't expect them to be joining an alliance outright. Not yet, at least. If the day arrives where they decide they can no longer compete effectively with DL or UA, maybe.
