Jobs. the elephant in the room. How many jobs are going to be tied to the eventual total fleet retirement of the MD80? I believe the Jetnet article says end of summer 2018, for the retirement of the remaining MD80s. I`m sure some job losses will be offset by the new Aiirbus and 737s.

The Airbus A320 series was never designed to.  But, the A320s are also cheaper to operate.

Any word out of Tulsa on AMT job cuts in relation of the MD-80 retirements ??

Much of the MD-80 M&R cutbacks have already happened, the news
that the youngest MD-80's will be around for a while actually is keeping
a lot of work in Tulsa. The 40 engines off those 20 aircraft will be trucked
to Tulsa for servicing and readied to use on serviceable aircraft when needed.
The engine shop was done producing overhauled engines but now is producing an
unspecified number of engines. This is all work that had gone away, the MD80
aircraft overhaul lines that were left are still running but I'am not sure what their
plans are. I think as long as the commuters can't find pilots & the fuel stays low
there will be a future and a need for the remaining MD80's.

Loved that plane. Many memories of spinning it in the alley at LGA.

T Tail Mafia!
I just realized I don't work a single non T-tail plane during my week. It's all either MD88/90's, 717's, or CR's...

No spinning, though; I'm lucky and have concrete for days...
