Belfast Airport is to have its first scheduled service to Florida when Flyglobespan begins weekly flights to Orlando Sanford in November.

The first flight from Belfast will take to the skies on Thursday, November 7. One-way tickets will start at £149, inclusive of charges, with premium economy and business class services also available.

The flight to Orlando Sanford will join the daily service Flyglobespan offers to the Florida destination from Glasgow and strengthens the airlines commitment to long-haul routes.

Recently, Flyglobespan announced it would begin flights in November between Manchester and Toronto, and in May 2007 begin a service between Liverpool and New York.

Tom Dalrymple, chairman of Flyglobespan, is confident that the experience gained from operating other long-haul routes from Britain will see the Belfast service prove a success.

"If it works as well in Belfast as it has across the rest of the UK, then I am sure we will be back for more," he said.

"As well as low fares out to America, there is another benefit to the area as our Glasgow to Orlando prices are proving very popular with Americans who want to come to Glasgow, and I am sure the Northern Ireland tourist board will benefit when the Belfast route begins."
