N.Y. Gov. Eliot Spitzer tied to prostitution ring.

Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month.

He said he "acted in way that violates his obligation to his family," speaking hours after the New York Times reported he told senior administration officials he had been involved in a prostitution ring.

"I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public, to whom I promised better," Spitzer said.

The first-term Democrat had been considered a rising star among his party. Doh! Aparently, that was not the only thing rising.

"Police in Manchester, N.H., were investigating an accident. The driver admitted he had been drinking at a local gay bar, gotten into his car, and then rear-ended another vehicle. "He had a difficult time locating his license in his purse," said the arresting officer. The driver, who allegedly wore a cocktail dress with fishnet stockings and high heels, was Boston, Mass., U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert Somma, 63. Police say a breath test found his blood alcohol level was .12 percent, 1.5 times the legal limit. Somma told officers he had driven up to New Hampshire when his wife was out of town because no one there knew him. He pleaded no contest to driving while intoxicated. Somma was appointed to the bench three years ago by President George W. Bush, and has resigned."

The reality is that both Republicans and Democrats are human beings who make mistakes. Difference being that Democrats tend to follow the Christian teaching of "Forgive that you may be forgiven." Some of you Repubs are still carrying on about Bill Clinton's peccadillos 10 years after they happened. Move on.

How can he govern while on his knees begging his wife not to ruin him financially?

That may be the least of his problems. He appears to be in violation of the Mann Act which makes it illegal to procure transportation for a woman across state lines for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.

U. S. Code Title 18 Part I Chapter 117 § 2422

(a) Whoever knowingly persuades, induces, entices, or coerces any individual to travel in interstate or foreign commerce, or in any Territory or Possession of the United States, to engage in prostitution, or in any sexual activity for which any person can be charged with a criminal offense, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.

I think the reason so many people get excited when Republicans get caught is because they're usually the ones telling us all why "family values are so important" and "their daughters would never engage in premarital sex", whereas with a Democrat, we kind of all just "assume" they're a bit corrupt, because they don't spend as much time telling us how pure they are...
