Does anyone know the specific rule for taking someone airside? I am not talking about at a terminal but at the GA side - YYC to be specific. I have a Red Pass but want to take a friend out to show them an aircraft. I also don't want to spend a bunch of time going up to security and getting a temporary for a 10 minute walkabout.
Of course I also do not want to get in do-do if the local commisar drives up.

I am not sure about engineers, but as a pilot with a licence and a/c they only need to see my licence, period. The only difference is that if you are on an operators property they want some id as to the fact you work there as well, ie the badges. The lovely folks at Kelowna will even take this and they are the most unhelicopter friendly people around. Maybe after last year fires and the work the helos did may have changed it but always was interogated as to where the hell my licence was. So would think if you have your licence with you and the a/c is one you are working on don't see a big deal with going out to see it.

Thanks SkullCap I realize that with a pilot license -now I think you could argue the same point with an AME license- all is ok. the problem is, my friend is not an aviation person. I have a YYC Red Pass and would be escorting them at all times - hence the query. I know I can go up to the Pass Office and get a Temp pass I just don't want to waste an hour of my day for a 10 minute visit

Unless you own the airport you will have to follow the regs same as everyone else. What about deliveries,I have to go through all the hoops to get a large item to the hanger doors. It's a real pain in the buttocks. Not only get a pass (temp) for the driver, but get the transport checked out for the proper item being delivered.

Actually it turned out fairly straight forward. I did have to go to the pass office on the "advice" of the Manager of A/P security. Once I got to the head of the line with my guest it was simply a matter of them showing some picture ID and me signing for their Visitor Pass. According to the info sheet I got you can escort up to 10 visitors per Red Pass provided you keep in visual contact with them at all times.
If the visitor had been only going onto my lease-hold ramp then I would not have required a VP
