People set off the ETD all time for reasons that are entirely innocent, so I don't think that was the reason for him being denied. I am guessing something about the way he interacted with LEOs or B6 officials was the problem.
FWM (flying while Muslim... or in this case, South Asian) is often a cause for misunderstandings.
Many people in the US have little understanding that Sihkism and Hinduism are not the same as Islam and that understandably can cause great offense. Some of the things reportedly said by the B6 GSC indicate it may have happened here.
Is it possible that Mr Mukerjee was offended and that affected his demeanor?
We have only the passenger's version, not jetBlue's side. (The Village Voice states that the company did not respond to its questions), it would be great to know what it is.
