I don't think Holder and the DJ really care about East/West frictional problems as you describe them. They care about DCA.

The 1000 city pairs concern brought about by the DOJ is BS.  It is all down to slots at DCA.  The DOJ and USAirways will break off talks this week or the middle of next week and go to court.  USAirways and American will hold the employees hostage, the DOJ will not allow this kind of blackmail. 
 
The DOJ warned the powers to be that DCA is a line in the sand before their official anouncement of their fight of the merger, they will not blink.
 
It is financially more advantagous for the airlines to remain seperate, that will be the result while blaming each other.

Eric Holder just wanted to broadcast the fact that they were open to talking, in advace of the break in talks.  Mr. Holder knows that there will be a lot of  "financial gods of wisdom"  licking their wounds for promoting and buying a BK stock. 
 
Greed is not always good in the airline industry.  Former CEO, Stephen Wolf, guided UAL and USAirways to a merger? Shame, how soon you greedy bastards forget, talk to Mr Buffet about it.

You are correct. The DOJ never mentioned 1000 city pairs... I guess some easties just made that up?
 
Just out of curriosity, say the sale of the west was done. What would the west position be on a seniority list integration with Frontier?
 
Remember, Frontier is a relatively new seniority group,.... Soo, I would assume a 3 year capt at Frontier would go behind a 30 year west capt and so on.
But what about a 3 year captain being in front of a 10 year f/o on the west? and how will the west f/o's with 10 years feel about being slotted behind 3 year captains, much less 3 year f/o's from Frontier?
 
I mean, you do know how slotting works?    Dont"cha?
 
Theoretically, with slotting and continouse mergers, a f/o could never move up.... or didnt you ever think that scenerio ?

"Not a single person wants this case to go to trial"? I would say that's a rather broad statement. Similar to you stating that EVERY employee of American and US should support this merger but you forget about those thousands (if not tens of thousands) of employees who will lose their jobs. Sometimes you remind me of rainman talking about Kmart. Obsessive compulsive for sure.

To be fair, that statement was from Ted Reed, the media whore-merger cheerleader, not Chip, the pilot-merger-cheerleader.    Chip's failure to properly use the quote function or even put the paragraph in quotation marks made it more difficult for everyone to realize that.    But as he's posted before, he's very busy as he posts this same material to half a dozen different websites.

You can fear monger all you want, but you're still not getting DOH, the Nic precedent is still there and so is LOA93. Next time you're going to come up with a scare tactic at least get the facts right, that way it won't sound like complete desperate BS.

Keith Wilson noted that the agenda for this week's special meeting will be primarily focused on developing goals for joint collective bargaining agreement (JCBA) negotiations. As a reminder, JCBA negotiations are contingent on the American Airlines–US Airways merger going forward. Capt. Wilson also noted the board would devote a portion of the meeting to discussing contingency strategies if the merger does not occur.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]APA Vice President (and former Negotiating Committee Chairman) First Officer Neil Roghair recapped the sequence of events that led to the JCBA process outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). He reminded the board that the JCBA process with an arbitration backstop was the "price of admission" to the conditional labor agreement (CLA) between APA and US Airways management. That CLA, in turn, helped facilitate the proposed merger of the carriers.[/SIZE]

  • Sell the 8 Washington Reagan slot pairs that JetBlue currently leases from American to JetBlue at a price approved by the DOJ
  • Divest an additional 37 slot pairs at Washington Reagan to the federal government for the DOT and/or DOJ to redistribute as they see fit.
  • Divest 10 slot pairs at New York LaGuardia to the federal government for the DOT and/or DOJ to redistribute as they see fit
  • Sell to Virgin America the 15 slots (7.5 slot pairs) that Virgin America currently leases from American at a price approved by the DOJ

The following gates would be available for use by competing airlines under a common-use scheme. The merged carrier would be allowed to continue using these gates when not requested by other airlines.
  • Relinquish access to Americans gates on Terminal Bs Pier 2 at Washington Reagan along with the slot divestiture
  • Relinquish access to US Airways five gates at Terminal 2 of Chicago OHare and make available five gates at Terminal 3, Concourse G
  • Relinquish access to Terminal A-East at Philadelphia
  • Give up Americans gates at Concourse A at Charlotte, and make available 5 gates on Concourse B
  • Relinquish access to gates at Terminal 3 at Los Angeles, and give up the rights to 2 of the 4 new gates granted to American at the new Tom Bradley International Terminal
