I worked for them for a short time.They had an employees intrawebsite and it listed all these companies they owned under Sears Holdings.....was hundreds all over the world. They became too big to manage and the strategy became sell off entities to meet current bills....and now, like you said, Craftsman was sold to Lowes. I remember hem all my life.....the old catalogs and such.
A friend told me they had to come up with like a billion by years end....was chapter 7 time.
