Republic Airways to buy Frontier Airlines

Under terms of the deal, Frontier will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings after the company serves as the equity sponsor for Frontier’s reorganization plan and buys 100 percent of the equity in the reorganized company. The cost to Republic will be $108.75 million.

Where is MrFish when needed the most?

A friend who is a f/a at Frontier says that Republic has stated that they will operate Frontier separate and apart from their regional service for other airlines.
Which will make for an interesting situation should UA and US ever merge. In such a case I wonder if a merged UA/US would terminate a major regional code-share or do business with the same company that is running competition at one of their hubs.

Very interesting indeed.

It would be one way to grow and consolidate all at the same time.
and its possible to also lose a lot of money too!

obviously something is going on and someone thinks they have it figured out!.. I just hope,

they actually do...

for the sake of so many jobs that go along with the process,

good luck to all.

it seems as though the latest news is sort of like.. placing a few more pieces into an incomplete jigsaw puzzle....(thats still incomplete)

Talk about making things miserable for United....

Could be interesting, but almost signals that WN hasn't been able to compete as well at DEN as they have historically when entering someone else's fortress hub...

Then again, they really haven't done all that great in STL or PHL either. They have a presence, but they haven't exactly done what Dave Seigel predicted and killed off the competition...

LUV can have them anytime they want, they dont need to buy F9 to get Mexico routes.

Not necessarily. IIRC, Frontier had to get some sort of governmental approval/license just to be able to apply tor rights to serve Mexico. Don't know if the same holds true for Costa Rica and Canada. WN most likely doesn't have that. F9 planes might also have life rafts, life vests and are probably EOW equipped to serve CUN and SJO. I don't even think WN flights to Florida can cut right across the gulf from Texas and Arizona like everyone else can.

Actually, the routes to Mexico, Canada and Alaska are probably prime reasons SWA decided to grab a this. There is something to be said about taking over already established gates and people to run gates in those places, rather than start from scratch opening a bunch of stations. IT's pretty interesting.

And as far as OW routes, you're right about the lift rafts on F9 and the routes to CUN and SJO, but a few years ago, SWA found it beneficial to add life vests to the a/c so they could take advantage of the better routes to cut the corners from TX to FL. It's been well worth the investments.

Don't forget how WN didn't take any employees from previous mergers like Transtar/Muse. Time will tell.

Heard from a friend at Frontier that WN withdrew it's bid because the two pilot groups could not come to an agreement on seniority. According to my friend, SWAPA wanted to staple the F9 pilots to the bottom of their seniority list, and the F9 pilots did not agree. (Imagine that.)

Evidently there is a belief that the Bond-McCaskill(?) legislation from last year has no teeth.
