NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Senators grilled US Airways CEO Douglas Parker about his company's hostile bid for Delta Air Lines at a hearing on airline consolidation Wednesday, with even some Republicans suggesting there could be a need for re-regulation of airlines if a new round of mergers take place.

Hey Mod,

Why move this discussion here?

Better create a 'wish' forum and move it there.

Reflecting back on most recent history....I'M ALL FOR IT!!!!
Ah...but here's the downside. The "good old days" where fares were regulated and labor costs passed on to the consumer are long gone. Because back then, the airlines dictated the fare- Congress just rubber stamped them. The industry has been deregulated for almost 30 years. Any attempt at reregulation will mean that Congress will determine the fare, and it'll be up to the airlines to make a profit at it. Because I know of few Congressmen who have the cojones to tell their constituants that they have to get used to considerably higher fares. If anything, the current fares, outside of the giveaway fares, are going to be the benchmark. So in essence, recent history will continue well into the future.
