By now you have heard that Southwest is engaged in a new effort to acquire slots and add flights at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). We want to provide our Customers the Freedom to Fly nonstop from DCA to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).
During a two-week period, thousands of Employees and Customers registered their support for Southwest’s application to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) by visiting www.southwest.com/DCA. On Tuesday, March 27, Southwest filed comments reflecting the resounding endorsement of more than 11,000 petitioners, as well as dozens of community and political leaders. We received so much support that we filed additional documents with the DOT and included a supplemental petition with an additional 1,000 signatures. This groundswell of support could not have been possible without the help of our Southwest Warriors, and I sincerely thank you!
A decision by the DOT is expected in May, and Southwest is prepared to begin service this summer, provided Southwest’s application is approved. Stay tuned for more information on our quest for Liberty, LUV, and the pursuit of DCA!
