UAL Corp.'s United Airlines announced Thursday that it is acquiring a minority stake in Aloha Airlines as the two carriers seek to strengthen their partnership in the Hawaii and trans-Pacific markets.

United will receive a seat on Aloha's board and could expand its share over time. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The agreement helps stabilize struggling Aloha, which emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in February 2006.

Maybe all the STAR Alliance carriers that serve Hawaii (US, AirCanada and others) need to codeshare with Aloha to help them in their InterIsland battle with Hawaiian and go! I have flown both Hawaiian and Aloha and clearly Aloha is the better operation. United has always been the premiere airline to the Islands and this arrangement is a good combination.
