but the burning question which still remains is how every other US airline manages to avoid those nasty little bugs and still take on water in Latin America - and keep the EPA and FDA happy to boot.

one of the great mysteries of the world, for sure.
It's only a burning question because you want an answer that you can't Google.

EPA, FDA, etc. are happy as long as they have a regulation to hide behind if there's an incident where a bunch of people wind up sick. They don't actually enforce the rules in the same way that the FAA does or the way the county health department would.

plz.

just plz.

if you think that the EPA or FDA are teethless organizations while the FAA is not, you truly have lost the argument and don't know how to walk away.

as I said pages ago, water, galleys, and pest control are regulated activities and areas on aircraft.

Slightly OT, but we're not allowed to drain A/C water systems and/or purge the lines anymore...

AFAIK, Purogene is still used...
We don't drain tanks either, they fill them up and it's supposed to help keep them from freezing(?). Purogene is our 'alternative' method, they don't like to do it because it takes longer, and the 'waste' water then needs to be captured, rather than dumped on the ramp.
