Your opinion?

Those mamby pamby "former" officials are just an example of how regulations are making US companies less competitive. Heck...nobody died and all the companies involved all made profits, and the problem was corrected to SOMEONE'S specifications, so what's the big deal?

What good is the FAA if airlines can just send aircraft south of the border to be maintained?

All this article does is further encourage these companies to offshore jobs.

Supervisor (Former Employee) – Goldsboro, NC – February 9, 2016
About every year to 18 months first a hiring freeze so good temp employees can't be brought on, then the lay off.

Temp services are a plague. I would love nothing more than to see them banned.

Temp services in Oklahoma (and I am sure in other places) have become one of two things.
1. A means to get cheap revolving door employees
2. An insurance policy to escape legal penalties for using illegal labor

If you are skilled labor or have a choice PLEASE do not do business with these vultures.

You seem to be such afriggin expert on FAR's, what do think they could of done different?

I'm a fan of the free market...let's get the goverment out of things. You know...businesses like airlines or third party maintenance companies will do BETTER work without those pesky regulations. They won't let profits "trump" safety.

I want regulations for safety," Trump told the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland. "I want all of the regulations that we need and I want them to be so strong and so tough. But we don't need 75 percent of the repetitive, horrible regulations that hurt companies, hurt jobs."

If I recollect, FAA is an airline safety regulatory agency, not a manufacturer.

I believe the Airline industry is more akin to the Utility companies and never should have been deregulated, to begin with.

dell, I don't know if you lived through it or not. I did. It is one of the main contributing factors that kept our wages, and benefits, low for years, contributed to the demise of many great Airlines, accelerated the consolidation that we now see as four major players.

So you would have liked it better with the gov't limiting competition from start ups so people could fly cheaper ?

Its called a free market....and it was out of balance. Gov't regulation removed and the playing field was leveled.

Leveled is a good word. There are fewer airlines today than there were before deregulation. One has to wonder what the airline landscape would look like if bankruptcy laws for corporations were as strict as they are for individuals.

Who cares? It is reasonably easy to get a flight so no lack of supply and for the most part it is very affordable. Show me why the average consumer should care that there are fewer airlines today.

I do agree with you on that. I am just as tired of these "faux" bankruptcies as you are. Bankruptcies in this country are simply a way to socialize losses while privatizing gains. Socialism at it's finest. So why are you OK with it when the government does it?

I guess I can only offer my opinion. Leg room, or lack thereof. If someone is over 6 feet, odds are good their knees are in the seatback in front of them, even on the "mainline" carriers. There used to be a time that some of this competition that deregulation created included legroom. Now, if the trip is less than 700 miles, I'll drive.
