Actually, the west 757 retiring is one of the oldest ones in the inventory and the lease is up. It is being replaced by new A321's which can handle the domestic 757 routes just fine.
Aircraft are being routed more efficiently. CLT HNL has not been performing well so it is being dropped.

I flew a couple of legs today through CLT. The out stations had extra sections scheduled this PM to take passengers through CLT to make connections originally scheduled through PHL.

As a side note, 618 was originally Eastern but USAir got it from America West during their bankruptcy thus the higher, out of sequence tail number. So it has been through both airlines.
