Duke, I work for the Kansas City (Kansas) Board of Public Utilities (electricity and water) as a Traffic Signal Technician. With all the advances in traffic control technology and the fiber optic cable splicing we also do it's a real secure job for those in the shop.

Well, 1) I get "travel privileges" with my part-time government employer (ANG), they're free but they're far from first-class :P 2) Since I actually have far better pay now (look at what your medical/dental benefits cost ya -- mine are company-paid) I can afford to buy any air/rail/ship travel...

Kansas City, Kansas Board of Public Utilities. Left AA @ 28.20/hr, joined BPU at 28.87/hr -- with a lot shorter commute and all the perks I listed. And you're right, I left at just past 48 so I got it all back. But I'm sure they made a little off of keeping it for the time I was there.

When I left AA it was refunded, although I don't think there was any interest included from all the time they kept it. It's sure nice (now) to work for an employer that actually values me as a human being -- all insurance is paid for by the company, company-sponsored wellness screenings yearly...

I agree to a point. What about the guy that was making it OK on 40 hours a week and then takes a cut like we did in 2003? Through no fault of his own his wages have been cut and now he is forced to rely on either a second job or overtime to maintain the status quo. I'm sure everyone knows some...
