I'm pretty sure that the NWA rights to China from NRT are tied o NRT--from the Chinese end, its the JAPANESE govt that "elects" thanks to the good guys winning WWII to have NWA fly them. NWA could NOT fly LAX-Shanghai since that would come under the US-Sino bilateral.

I think the point that JBLU is not starting any transcons being a sign of caution on B6's part is a good one. Mileage matters more there, and they proved with AWA (now out of the transcon market) that they were willing to endure a brutal flight.

They might be holding off to see what develops in the FLL/FAA catfight. But with 5 more flights to FLL from EWR, and CAL also increasing FLL in response, somethins gotta give. I think movin to MIA for some flights out of every airport makes sense.

As I also mentioned on the CO forum, Barger (COO and I think Pres of B6) ran EWR for CO before going to Jetblue, so knows what he's getting into, as much as anyone in this crazy business.

You may remember that Dave Barger ran EWR for CO before becoming Pres and COO of B6. So maybe he knows what he's doing.

Song flies out of EWR to Florida. Like LaGuardia, this is aimed at giving Song no place to hide, and CO is just incidental, I'd guess. The fares run $30-40 higher at EWR on average. And its a completely different customer base. Only a few people have the time and patience to schlep to JFK...
