I have a question,

Why is AA having the 3-class service on the transcon between LAX to JFK ?
I thought AA has changed it to the 2-class service long time ago ?

Thank you

JFK-LAX and I think JFK-SFO to some degree still maintain the three class AFS service. AFS is pretty much dead on all other transcon services.

i think AA has the 3 class because of marketing. every other airline in that route, ie; delta and ual, has it. generally whatever one airline does the others has to pretty much match that. i think its worked well for the lax and some sfo routes. i know that was the reason why ifs (or international flagship) on 767-300 was made into 2 class because delta and continetal has great success with this method and it saves money. now if we fas working it can get it right. it is too much service for us to do with the time we have to do it. by the time the dessert is coming around most passengers are already asleep. but i hear that continetal has a great service on their international service in which they use the 767.

One word answer: Hollywood.

Many celebs demand real First Class, not DL's mixed J & F product. AA still sells P class between LAX and JFK, and will continue with AFS on this route until those in The Business stop paying the fare.

Some have said that the SAG contract (have not seen it) requires First Class, and so UAL and AA keep providing it.

AA converted its 763s to 2 class in 2003, but it kept a dozen or so 767-223s configured in 3 classes for all LAX-JFK and some flights SFO-JFK.

As a former talent agent I can confirm that the SAG contract specifies that any actor traveling for work travel Round trip first class.

Delta does not offer 3-class transcon service.
