WASHINGTON, April 20, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Leaders of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA), representing pre-merger America West and pre-merger US Airways Flight Attendants, issued the following statement on a potential US Airways/American deal.

"A contract for Flight Attendants at US Airways must be completed prior to any new merger deal. We appreciate innovative efforts for an airline business model that supports jobs with good wages, work rules, benefits, and a secure retirement. In that spirit, any new deal must first acknowledge the contributions of US Airways Flight Attendants through a single contract with job security and improvements promised to Flight Attendants involved in the last merger initiated by US Airways management. Seven years later that deal still isn't done. There is a small window of opportunity for US Airways management to get this right," stated Deborah Volpe, AFA president of pre-merger America West Flight Attendants, and Mark Gentile, AFA president of pre-merger US Airways Flight Attendants.

irrelevant, the contracts will be decided by AA employees and passed to the US Airways peeps. The US FA's and Pilots will take what is approved by AA because in every case this will be a significant improvement to the current East and West contracts for both groups.

You aren't paying attention to why the AFA said this... The DOH seniority list isn't ratified, and so McCaskill-Bond may certainly apply in a three way merger with APFA. The unratified DOH list is being overcome by a new merger scenario.... fact is there are three seniority lists that will be merged in the new contract... and it isn't only the FAs that this is happening to...

Good luck on that one.

The AFA is along for the ride as well.

I actually agree. And if the AFA is afraid that their DOH list ("accepted" by the company, agreed to in their own CBL, but not yet ratified)...if the AFA is afraid that list is to be overcome by an entirely new merger scenario that requires negations to effectively be wiped clean and reopened, then there is a lesson to learn there. Everything is negotiable until it is ratified.

This scenario could lead to the East FAs being disappointed much like the West pilots, having believed that they had an agreement that would never change, only to find they can't cash in.

You are a complete idiot. Why then would the west fa leader demand a contract now?

I do believe our former afa prez warned loudly that this was the reason why it was important to vote yes...but hey...im just one in thousands... The group said No now we either rush to get another contract...which is what afa seems to be saying now all of a sudden or we roll the dice....

USA320Pilot comments: Why and who is going to force US Airways to do this? There are no negotiations scheduled and the NMB is not involved to my knolwledge. I love the tough talk and false bravado with nothing the F/A's can do about the current situation.

As I indicated earlier the F/A's may have screwed them self big time by rejecting their TA. Maybe the F/A's should ahve listened to Mike Flores, Deborah Volpe, and the rest of their JNC because now they have a worse set of cards to play with the upcoming AA SLI per McCaskill-Bond.

Furthermore, the time value of money keeps counting day-by-day with the F/A's losing more and more money.
