Thing is, I kind of like Steel. He reminds me of McCain version 2000. Willing to speak his mind and not walk in lock step with others. Unfortunately, like most politicians, he is to easy to reign in and to afraid to loose his power. I wonder if this will put them in a pickle. If they get rid of Steel and replace him with another minority, it will be a clear case of pandering. If they replace him with a white guy, it will be a clear case of pandering. If they replace him with a woman, it will be a clear case of pandering. If they leave him in power, it will be a clear case of suicide.

Seems the Republicans are not much better at vetting than the Dems.

My understanding is that contracts were signed and they cannot be voided. It's a rock and a hard place. Due to AIG's size and reach, letting them go toes up is not possible. The only way to void the contracts I assume would be to let them go toes up.

Outside counsel has advised that these are legal, binding obligations of AIG, and there are serious legal, as well as business, consequences for not paying. Given the trillion-dollar portfolio at AIG

If I were the FED I would say this: Either you forgo your bonus voluntarily and you get to keep your job or you take your bonus and you can pick up your belongings as you walk out the door. As you said, I would not imagine there are too many opportunities for investors from a bankrupt company right now.

I'd love to be able to say let AIG, GM, Chrysler and the rest go belly up. Then what happens. Most of this country is own by foreign companies it seems. Who is going to buy our debt? Who is going to support this countries greed? We don't build crap any more and what little we do build seems to be crap. How many more millions of people are going to be put out of work?

Perhaps it's the part that I opined(in another post/thread) about the present atmosphere with-in the GOP "TODAY" that is akin to the BATTLE of GETTYSBERG, between the Bible THUMPERS, and the more moderate wing of the party, like Steele, and the young congressman from Wisconcin(I believe his name is Ryan). Heck, one can place Romney, and Mn. Gov. Pawlenty in there also.
