Just admit it. AA surrendered to JetBlue on that market.
American Will Discontinue JFK-Long Beach and JFK-Phoenix Service, Effective Nov. 1
AA Continues to Offer 11 Daily Nonstops JFK-Los Angeles
FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines announced today that it will discontinue its daily nonstop service between New York's Kennedy Airport and Long Beach and between JFK and Phoenix, effective Nov. 1. American said the airplanes it uses on those routes will be reassigned to its Dallas/Fort Worth Hub to support the previously announced expansion there.
American and its regional affiliate, American Eagle, will add at least 70 departures at DFW by the summer of 2005. The increase will bring American's total mainline jet departures at DFW to 540 a day, the highest in the airline's DFW history.
"The process of strengthening our network and building our presence at DFW continues," said Henry C. Joyner, American's Senior Vice President - Planning. "And as it does, we will continue to move aircraft resources to the markets where they can be used most productively and best serve our customers. These market choices are particularly critical at a time when we and the rest of the industry are feeling the financial impact of soaring fuel prices."
American operates two flights a day on the JFK-Long Beach route and one flight a day from JFK to Phoenix.
American said customers in the New York area with plans to fly to Southern California can do so on any of its 11 daily nonstop flights between JFK and Los Angeles, or on any of literally hundreds of connecting options between JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Stewart Airport or White Plains and Los Angeles, Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario, Orange County, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara or San Diego.
