Excellent cooperation on this flight. Kudos to the FA and the captain.

The co-pilot of an American Airlines plane that departed San Francisco on Monday fell sick en route to Chicago, said American spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan.

"He was unable to continue his duties and he moved to the passenger cabin," Fagan said, adding that the flight's captain checked to see whether any off-duty airline pilots were on board the flight.

A female flight attendant advised the captain that she is a commercial pilot and the captain asked her to sit in the right-hand seat in the cockpit, Fagan said.

No word on who had the fish.

The mechanic on board would have loved to help out but were not allowed to fly on the flight deck!!!!!!!

... did OTTO have to be "reinflated" ? ...

Good for the F/A, but I'm sure she became another worthless piece of union trash to the company as soon as the souls and aircraft were safely on the deck.

Let no good deed go unpunished, as the saying goes - we probably haven't heard the last of this.

There was a mechanic on board who holds a commercial ticket? None of the articles I've seen mention that.

Turns out the purser was also formerly a pilot but the captain went with Patti DeLuna instead.

"That doesn't mean I'm a hot shot pilot, it only means I was the best they had-- I was the best candidate for the job at the time," DeLuna said.

"I felt terrible for the first officer,'' she went on. "But I was so excited. It was way more fun than serving meals from the galley.''

More fun than serving meals? I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya.

I recognize her - a flight attendant who provides good cabin service and decent fill-in FO service.

FA Mikey - I doubt the 763 was stafffed with min crew, but anything's possible.

Sarcasm...Before 9/11, mechanics were close to getting a jump seat authorization...That plan was nixed due to security reasons. But it's ok for me to fly in the cockpit when on a field trip or on an FCF for troubleshooting purposes.

If she was min crew and not in assigned JS, AA may face a fine. It really wouldnt surprise me.
The PIC can ignore any FAR in an emergency if it is deemed to be the safer course of action. May have to justify it to the FAA after the fact, but at the time the PIC can do whatever he/she wants.

I can't wait to see the subsequent scope clause violation grievance...

Don't worry E,

It will be balanced by some idiot cubicle dwellar putting a letter in her file for not completing her pre-landing FA duties in back.

Please enlighten us on how this is a grievance?

And let me save you some time, its not.

Your anti-union views are shown so clear.
