Above & Beyond Winners

IMO the priority of this program should be primarily for front line employees. flight atts and cust svc agents, but as a fleet svc employee (tower lead) I appreciate that I have the oppurtunity to earn them as well, as a small reconigition for trying to go the extra mile.

I am sure their are many hard working, deserving folks in departments like flight ops (pilots) dispatch, maintenance, fleet svc, headquarters, etc., folks that normally don't interact with customers. While it might be a little more work, maybe have two, 10,000 drawings, maybe 6 from the front line group in one box, and 4 from the non front line group in another box, just an idea, coments on this welcome.

I think they should scrap the A&B program and replace it with a perfect attendance program like Continentals. Does CO still give away autos every quarter?

Bummer, you didn't win a random contest. You are acting like you are entitled to win and no one else is. No wonder US was such a mess.

Instead of these stupid A&B coupons, how about some Casino Dollars? I would probably have a better chance at the tables than I do in this stupid "winners pre-determined by Corporate" drawing!

By the way, I was just told by someone in the know that multiple A&B cards sent in per quarter by one employee do not increase your chances in the quarterly drawing. Why? Because only one card per employee is entered and the rest are not placed in the drawing!!!

SO, for those of us that do work on the front lines with the frequent flyers and get multiple cards over the quarter for our efforts, don't send them all in...because only one will be entered and the rest are thrown out!

And you see nothing wrong with the appearance of impropriety that apparently others see and feel?

Just a question for you. Does Doug Parker or the rest of HP Management EVER do anything you don't agree with?????

If I were Doug, and I read the wholesale whining and sense of entitlement here over a freaking contest that the company is doing to reward employees, I'd think about doing away with it.

People complain endlessly about their jobs, wanting someone to change it, well, if you don't like it, change it yourself and quit.

Its not impropriety Bob, its a contest for ALL employees. If you think that someone in admin is gaming the system, well, what about a FA having a friend write up A&B's for them?

Its an imperfect system, but its a reward system, not everybody gets a pony, and if you get all butthurt that you didn't win, well, welcome to reality.

Let me make sure I understand. Are you saying if you get more than one A & B per quarter that only one card will be entered ?

I have information from a good source that this is how the Company plays the game! If I had known this before, I could have saved myself the postage by not making multiple mailings whenever I had additional cards to mail in!

Bummed? No. Disappointed? Absolutely! This is supposed to be a program that rewards employees for going "above and beyond" to offer customer service that exceeds US Airways virtually non-existant service standards.

Some of us actually care and will bend over backwards to provide a level of service that will be memorable in a good way (not what the monthly DOT Customer Service rankings reflect). We do this in hopes that we might be able to persuade a customer to come and fly with us again. In return for providing such a service we are given these A&B coupons which bear no fruit. Well, if the tree bears no fruit then it is time to cut it down!!

US is only a mess because this is what management has created through one bad decision after another. How dare you blame employees like myself for creating this mess. Personally, I care about this airline...even when it does not do the same for the customer, my fellow employees or me.

HPearlyretiree,

Just a heads up that I know N903AW and that N903AW has been an outstanding FA. I learned a lot from N903AW and I believe most of the folks who actually know me would say that I was a pretty good FA also. I believe you would have to search hard to find FA's who don't think highly of N903AW.

I am just sorry to see N903AW so unhappy because that had never been the case in the past.

you know i've always thought they should break the amounts down ... the ten thousand dollars is too much like winning the lottery ...

In this day and age i think the company could go maybe as low as 500 dollars , or maybe set it at 1000 ... with more winners , more people would FEEL like they have a real shot at it .... and i also agree that we need to do something so that the people who don't intereact with the public alot have a shot at it too ...

I'm sure he is, I probably know him. I used to work heavily with recruiting, its a really tough job. Paperwork galore, applicants that are clueless, that don't provide info that is very time sensitive, a phone backlog that won't quit, and you get to be the bearer of bad news to everyone that doesn't get a job.

Then, if someone is angry, they file an EEO Complaint, which takes a week of your time to complete, and god forbid someone lies on their resume and it gets discovered post hire. Add in the "holy ghost" promotions, where someone mysteriously gets promoted (like the Beauvais family) and there was no job posting, no interviews, etc. Makes you feel like crap. You have to be amazingly positive, especially when you hear the 900'th Flight Attendant applicant of the day gush "I want to be a Flight Attendant because I love people!" Or, when you face a hoard of 200 pilot applicants, all with the exact same suit, exact same tie, same hair, exact same resume, and the exact same phony sincerity which will go away the second they are hired and then you will be treated like a foot disease by the same pilot for the rest of your career.

Oh, and your job is first to go when the economy takes a dump, and, because the economy took a dump, there are a thousand other recruiters out there looking for work.

There are a lot of tough jobs out there and a lot of good people at US, everyone should have a chance to be rewarded for a good job, because, everyone makes the airline fly.

I don't work at US, so I have nothing to gain or lose from the A&B program. But I do think that "rewarding" employees via a lottery system -- while great for those lucky employees whose number was "up," -- can breed resentment among those whose number was not picked. Theoretically, a brand new employee with one A&B submission could win the $10,000 prize, whereas a long-timer with dozens of A&B submissions per year might not ever get picked. While the system may not be rigged, it sure can seem that way if you're the one who gets "overlooked" quarter after quarter.

Rewarding employees for "above and beyond" work should be part of a defined incentive program, with cash bonuses tied to meeting performance goals, or taking on special projects. That's how it works in my company, and nobody complains.

If US wants to randomly distribute cash prizes to employees via quarterly raffles, more power to them. But call it a raffle, and not an incentive program.

This is all pretty petty but i am laughing at all the people who won who have the word Manager attached to their name. Oh ya and the guy who is in "Executive Recruitment" who won $10,000!... I'm sure he deserved every penny!!!!!!

Does that mean YOU are now a whiny Eastie  You can never be an Eastie and disagree with management without the tired old labels!
Listen, ANYONE that goes ABOVE AND BEYOND SHOULD be rewarded with more besides a one in probably 100,000 to win. Why bother with a reward system at all? I agree some smaller, less costly token like a paid day off per 5 receive each quarter would be wonderful in my opinion. I don't NEED A&B to actually go A&B!! Save the money! A letter at this point is more meaningful than an A&B card. At least a good letter goes into your file. A&B cards do not!
