Linky -> Afghan Clerics Demand Convert Be Killed

The trial, which began last week, has caused an international outcry. President Bush has said he is "deeply troubled" by the case and expects the country to "honor the universal principle of freedom."

Rice spokesman Sean McCormack said she told Karzai it is important for the Afghan people to know that freedom of religion is observed in their country. But in deference to the country's sovereignty, Rice evidently did not demand specifically that the trial be halted and the defendant released.

"This is clearly an Afghan decision," McCormack said. "They are a sovereign country."

Still, Rice's direct appeal to a foreign leader in a judicial proceeding in their own country is an unusual move.

I wish w and Rice would have responded like that when Robertson advocated the assassination of Pres Chaves.

OH well, I guess do as I say not as I do still lives on.

"Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die," said cleric Abdul Raoulf, who is considered a moderate and was jailed three times for opposing the Taliban before the hard-line regime was ousted in 2001.

This Abdul Raoulf fellow is considered a moderate?

jailed three times for opposing the Taliban, what did he do, refuse to do something heinous like wash between his toes before prayer?

This is a perfect example for those defenders of Islam who preach that its a peace loving Religion, and that includes W. Even the moderates call for the mans head because he has rejected Islam.

Not to Defend Pat Robertson because I Dont, But it was'nt until the mid-70's That President Gerald R. Ford forbade political assassination in an executive order.

Though Pat in my opinion is, well shall I say 'the lights on but no ones home' I dont think he was advocating the rub out of Hugo because the man refused to join the 700 Club!

Not sure how Fords executive order plays into this.

As for Robertson, he is a far right wing conservative, that from various articles I have read of the years seems to have close ties to the current administration, donates huge amounts of money and controls a huge base of voters. I have seen nor heard anything to indicate he is not competent. He did advocate the assassination of a legally elected head of state to which our government remained silent. The impression that seemed to give is that either they agree with his sentiment (likely given W’s and Pres Cheney’s mentality) or/and they are afraid of alienating the lunatics who Robertson controls and can bring to the polls come election time.

Personally, while I do not think Robertson is crazy, I do think that he is religious fanatic who need to be put in check. We all know bush.Co won’t do it though.

Politics and politicians are disgusting.

Only in the sense that Pats remarks were political in context and not Religious. up until just 30 years ago it would be quite feasible.

I base my notion strictly on personal observation. Pat has made some really outlandish statements that leaves many christians questioning his sanity.

Well I certainly would'nt put him in a league with the Islamic religious fanatics, but he certainly has no buisness being involved in politics.

Politics and politicians are disgusting.

Agreed!

How do you put someone in check?

Well, for starters, it would be nice to see bush Co. denounce him and say that will have nothing to do with someone who advocates the assignation of a foreign head of state. Unfortunately, when it comes to ethics in politics, money takes a front seat to doing the right thing. By not being denounced, he gains standing among his people. BTW, I think the same should be done to the likes of Jackson, Sharp … etc. They are lose cannons and IMO, a danger.

Sigh, wish I had purple shoes......

😛

My point was that w & Co. are hypocritical for not holding everyone to the same standard and therefore loose credibility. Not sure what your's was.

Pretty simple really..
I made a wish and you made a wish.
Your wish is based on an unchangeable past and mine is based on a future possibility.
I may get purple shoes tomorrow, will you get your wish?

This movement that awards children’s families with money for what they call "honor" in having their children blowing themselves to pieces is a lot more dangerous than most in the west want to believe. This is growing like the black plague and to stop this demonic movement it will take the same kind of fervor that is driving it. At this point the west will need a few major cities incinerated to realize this is a very serious problem. I am not laughing nor making jokes because there is nothing funny about it. It will absolutely effect our children as much if not more then it touched our generation, anyone with a open mind can see this. There is no such thing as being nice to these people, they want us dead and right now the west wants to appease them, which will never work. Can you say WWIII
