Air Cargo Is Still Security Threat

Do you know the process for determining a "known shipper" from an "unknown shipper"?

Also, how about what you can put on a pax aircraft vs. a cargo-only aircraft?

I've read the GAO report. I wonder if Ed Markey has.

Cargo is a wonderful revenue source for the legacy carriers. They just don't accept a box from joe blow walking in off the street.

Unlike fedex/ups/dhl.

I believe the airlines and government have a bigger security concern with disgruntled employees rather than cargo.

Don't confuse cargo with baggage. TSA regulations require at least 35% of all shipments be inspected. They do however, exempt (1)boxes that are shrink-wrapped to a skid (2)boxes that are banded to a skid (3)human remains - i.e. dead bodies. Some airlines such as Airtran Airways don't exempt (1) or (2). Continental will soon follow with this in the start of 06.
