If there are hotels at or near an airport that have rooms that are not sold for the evening, they sometimes offer discounted rates to travelers who are going to be there for a while, but arent going to be spending the night. ie cruisers who get off the ship in the morning, but arent booked out until later at night or people who have hours long layovers and want to get some rest or get away from sitting in the airport.
