Man takes tractor for spin on airport runway
Thursday, July 22, 2004 Posted: 1:43 PM EDT (1743 GMT)

ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- An airline passenger wearing only a pair of pajama bottoms stole a baggage tractor at the city's main airport and drove it onto an active runway early Wednesday, police said.

Atlanta police say Robert W. Buzzell, 31, had walked out an exit door that had an alarm at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Flights were not affected by the incident, which took place before 6 a.m., airport officials said.

The man was stopped by mechanics who asked him for an employee identification card. When he could not provide one, they escorted him to an office and called police.

Authorities said the man appeared mentally unstable.

Buzzell, who had a ticket for a Delta flight, was jailed on charges of unlawful interference with security, theft by taking and reckless conduct.

Police said Buzzell, of Warner Robins, Georgia, told Delta employees that an alarm sounded when he opened the door to the tarmac, but that no security personnel were around.

Airport officials said they are working with police and the airline to determine if security changes need to be made.

Sat. afternoon at approx 1630 while eating supper I observed the following at CLT C security checkpoint:
A young lady approx 11-12 years old in tears as she was being given a secondary search. They were tearing thru her luggage & I observed as she lifted up her blouse just above the belt as she was being wanded.
I have written a letter to the TSA & awaiting a response(dont really expect one) also a letter to our local newspaper.
There is no excuse for what I witnessed in the name of security. We all know who those hijackers are & who the people are that are out to do us harm.
This stuff in the name of security must cease.

As I walked into a jetway some guy was wanding all the cleaners going onto the plane. I walked past all of them and I had 2 screwdrivers, leatherman, & a real sharp knife. Just shows who they trust.

The TSA is a joke. They still target old ladies & old men. Usually over 70.

And what is with the plastic knife in 1st class when they still give you a steel fork? Come on now !! Lets be real. Unless the pilot is the terrorist I really don't think anyone is going to get into the cockpit. Sorry (flight deck). Don't want to offend anyone.

Of course they are going to target the old folks and the young ones also-newborn to 12/13 yrs, Flight crews etc. They are not a risk, they are the ones who will not give the TSA any grief, they want their numbers to look good for the publics sake/ See we search all these people and we don't find anything, so sit back and enjoy your flight knowing that we are on the job/
I find it funny that every and I say every time my Mother in law travels D3 she gets searched, shes 83, she has trouble holding on to her beagle when she takes him for a walk, yet they say shes a security risk, well if you believe that I have some "Ocean front property" in Nevada for sale. Ever notice on the back collars of the TSA's shirts there are the words TSA, Yep, you guessed it "Thousands Standing Around".
There is no consistency between stations, or LEO's who help with airport security, for example, I went on a field trip to Arkansas, well we arrived at 3am and the officer at the gate knew we were coming, knew we had an airplane to fix, talked to us a few minutes and led us out to the airplane. knowing full well we had toolboxes full of dangerous tools, yet he had common sense, these guys are here from the airline, in an airline registered truck, they have the proper Id's, etc. In his estimation we were
not a risk. Yet at lunch time when we went for something to eat another officer searched us, the truck, wanted to know what was in the box, even though it had an 8130 packing slip, and marked aircraft parts, so we had to pry it open to show him, with tools /screwdrivers/ and a 2in pocket knife to open the 8130 pocket, he sees the tools and confiscates my 2in pocket knife, now remember i've been working on this plane since 3am its now 1pm, anyway he says he'll give it to the ramp svpr, now how stupid is that, I can't have it in my pocket but a svpr is allowed to have it in his, pulleezzzzzzzz.
