What do you guys think about the English-speaking Al Jazeera news media? Of course, we will not get it in the U.S. right now; but it will be available on the web and likely on some satellites.

Surprisingly, they have had some big-name correspondents join the ranks. 'Nightline' Correspondent David Marash joined; Sir David Frost and former CNN anchor Riz Khan joined as well... and I cannot forget ex-marine Josh Rushing.

Supposedly, they will keep the same slant as they do with the Arabic channel.

Seems to me that access to more information can never be a bad thing. Although just as with most news sources here in the US, you have to take it with a grain of salt and search out the true stuff.

You mean you cannot find true, unslanted news on Fox or CNN?

We are all aware that Al Jazeera commonly shows the suffering of Iraqis. Perhaps this well help some U.S. citizens see the human side of the Iraqi people.

All news organizations seem to have a bias of some kind. Some more obvious or blatant than others.

I have always found it humorous though that FOX needs to tell us that they are in fact "Fair and Balanced". It is as if they are assuming their viewers do not have the capability to determine that for them selves. Me think’s the protest a bit to much.

I think one could easily argue that all news is propaganda to some degree. Certain items are shown while others are not. Certain questions are asked while others are not. I very rarely see a broadcast where I do not wonder what is missing. I end up putting the propaganda of Fox, beside that of CNN and add in a little Al-Jezeera, toss in what ever else I can find and viola, a tid-bit of news that may or may not be accurate.

It saddens that I cannot trust my government or news to give me accurate information.

Al Jazeera is very slanted towards the terrorist's point of view, does it not strike you odd that they're always the first to deliver the propaganda tapes with full access?

Not really. They seem to be the biggest name in News in that part of the world.

If I were going to turn something over to a news agency, CNN would be my first stop due to their size in the west.

From most of the accounts I have heard, their reporting does not seem to me any more biased than any other news organization. OK not including FOX.

Al-Jazeera’s history of coverage sympathetic to terrorism only strengthens this mistrust. The channel has a well-deserved reputation in America as a mouthpiece for al-Qaeda and other Islamic terrorist groups. It’s no coincidence that the Islamic Army of Iraq recently praised Al-Jazeera for aiding its “fight against the enemies” or that various videotape productions put out by members of al-Qaeda somehow mysteriously make their way to Al-Jazeera’s doorstep. One has to wonder at times if there’s a slot in the back door marked “terrorist tapes.”

Dave Marash of Al Jazeera used to be on nightline. He is a good reporter.
