In hopes of this working well for Alaska. Maybe some of us other airlines will start using them as well. Look forward to the final outcome...

This has been tried on and off since 1992. Only thing new here is the human readable aspect.

The early tags prototyped by Ricoh in the 90's were a plastic tag with a thermal face that could be "reprinted" hundreds of times. Other airlines have had RF embedded permanent tags that keep the same tag number and use the existing messaging infrastructure to send the routing information to airport and shipside scanners. They add a paper tag for the humans to read...

The day will come where tags won't have human readable information.
