Algeria made FAST WORK of thier Hostage situation !
Yes, it's unfortunate that even one (hostage) life was lost.

A 'lot' was occuring in this situation. Algeria despises France (for Obvious Historical reasons), YET President Bouteflicka ALLOWED France direct 'Air Rights' Over Algeria to Mali. This happening is (short of) a Miracle . If Sarkozy was still president, the answer would have been an Instant..'NO'.

The 'Leader' of this newest Al Qieda group IS an Algerian. (It looks like THAT really meant something...NOT) The US offered 'help' (Seals perhaps), but Algeria said 'thank you, but No Thank You ! (We take care of our OWN Mess)

Think back to the 'Arab Spring'. Not a 'peep' was heard from within Algeria !!!
A VERY VERY Independent country. Looks like the Very last thing ANYONE should ever do, is to MESS with those Algerian GAS Fields !

I like a country (like Algeria), who unlike Morroco, won't 'spread -thier-legs' for the US/GB/France or Spain ! !

I wonder if the weapons used by Al-Qaida were registered and did all 32 terrorists have conceal carry permits? Or is Algeria an "open Carry" country? Does Algeria have an assault weapons ban? Just curious!

You all know that this Algeria thing is not about America. Believe it or not, every incident in the world is not about us. Algeria, the French and those thugs have long history. None of it has to do with the United States. Just so happens that they found an easy target in that gas/oil facility that happen to employ many different peoples.

Big supporter of Assad. HC was over there trying get support for military intervention in Mali in late October......looks like it worked.

GOOD Points Glen (Not unusual for you), and your right, this Wasn't about Islam.
Algeria,still a bit too 'police state' for my liking, is a VERY independent country.
When quired by GB about "WHY didn'T YOU call US", Algeria replied, where the F were you, when France had thier BOOTS on our Throats, in 62' when the Algerians won thier Independence, losing over 200,000 people in the process.
Though a predominate Islamic state, there are Many newspapers OPENLY Bashing the President and the very strong Army. This is not prohibited. You've got women in head covering, Women without. They are distrustful of almost Everyone, and given there long bloody history for Independence, who can blame them.
I have the pleasure @ Amtrak, of working with 2 Algerians, and have learned A lot about them, thier politics, and attitudes. Algeria is 'coming around" slowly,, but Never to the Prostitute stature of Morocco with regard to the West(GB/FR/US/SP). They have an Excellent repoire with Italy, and up to just recently the USSR. They have Soooo much Natural Gas, AND Oil, that they don't rely on Anyone.
Glen, try to get a hold of a Copy of the "Battle of Algiers", possibly on Youtube !

A large part of the UNEDUCATED West, EU, eastern Europe, asia, and The land down under, learned a LOT about Algeria this last Week. Something the African continent knew a lot about.
Boy, would I LOVE to be sitting around the campfire tonite, of the Lunatic leader of this New group of Al Qaida, entrenched in the desert of Mali, lead by the one Eye'd Algerian Leader Moktar Belmoktar, licking thier "wounds' dished out by fellow Algerians !
They may cause trouble in north Africa again, BUT they'll N E V E R cross into the sovereign state border of Algeria again. I say....."Job well done Algeria" ! Should Hillary win in '16, I expect to see her make a strong effort for strong ties to Algeria,.....NOT by trying to "convert" them, but by accepting them for Who they are,......A VERY strong nation, who marches to the beat of thier own drum !
