Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. Today is Friday, July 25th and this is
Dear AFA. This is MEC President Greg Davidowitch, reporting.

Today I am elated to report that the voluntary furlough award resulted in a
recall of all of our flying partners currently on involuntary ANP and
involuntary furlough.

The Company will not impose involuntary furloughs during this process, and
all Flight Attendants currently on 5.L. or involuntary furlough status will
be recalled effective August 31, 2003.

Your diligence in your profession, and support of our collective goals
throughout this grueling process has been not only inspirational, but also
necessary for our collective success. It''s difficult to imagine using the
word success after all that we have endured, but when measured against
alternate outcomes we must acknowledge what we have achieved together.

Thank you for calling. Continue to do your professional best as we rebuild
our airline. Throughout the past year, we have faced countless challenges,
and we have done so together. In spite of these difficult times, our
solidarity will lead us to our future success.

Congrats to all invol furloughs who are able to return to work.

Did UAL offer another round of voluntary furloughs coinciding with this recall or is this additional FAs? How many FAs remain on vol furlough, and when are they expected to go back to work? Did UAL see a lot of FA retirements over the last year?

United recalled all of the voluntary furloughs that were already out. The reason for this, was because of retirements and because of the new contract. In the new contract, the flight attendants would have start paying for a portion of their insurance. This allowed those who could not financially afford to be out, the chance to come back. United said that they needed to have around the number of 6200+ flight attendants to be out on voluntary or involuntary furlough (the number has always been higher then what they really needed.) After the bids had closed, the number of flight attendants wanting the voluntary furlough was 5467. The time frame for the furloughs are 7 months, 14, 19, 26, 31, and 43 with the majority of the furloughs being in the 42 month range or 3012 flight attendants. All furloughs commence on the 31st of August.

As far as retirements, the total amount of retirements in 2002 was 608. From January 2003, to the beginning of June 2003 the amount was 2550. By the end of June another 1737 flt.att. retired. 252 of those retirees, retired from voluntary furloughs. Under the contract, a flight attendant can retire from voluntary furlough. During their furlough, they keep their seniority, and pass travel benefits. It use to be health as well, but now everyone has to pay for it.

I applaud all of the flt.att. who could afford to take the voluntary furlough!!!!!!!!
