I heard that the pilots at NWA have told the company they can't justify pay cuts when NWA backs out of every fare increase the industy tries to implement. In other words how can they say "we're losing money" when they refuse to charge more. Once again, the workers are expected to pay for mis-management???

NW is the only airline in the industry with rising yields. What more do you really need?

There have been more substantial arguments as late that the major carriers may indeed be manipulating yields at least in certain arenas. To date the excuse has been the LCC's fare structures. What about the international routes? With load factors exceeding 80%, it is becoming harder to believe that yields cannot be improved upon, unless you want to argue that LCC's somehow influence those prices as well.

It's called making hay while the sun shines. All the airline managements are all going to take every advantage of the economic mess that Bush has made of the economy and the terror attacks of Sept 11th to lower labor costs as much as possible before the economy picks up after the Republicans get kicked out of the White House. And then after it's all over, the CEOs and executives will give themselves nice fat bonuses for doing such a good job.

Alaska has had increased yields since 1995.

AS's yields fell after implementing their simplified fare structure.
