MEC CODE-A-PHONE UPDATE - September 2, 2004

This is Jack Stephan with a US Airways MEC update for Thursday, September 2nd, with one new item.

The Negotiating Committee worked internally most of today preparing a proposal that could be ready to give to the Company late this evening. That proposal will be available soon on the pilots only home page under “Negotiating Committee Information.â€￾

The MEC is currently recessed to the call of the MEC Chairman. There is not yet a definitive time set on when the MEC will reconvene its meeting at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, VA, but as soon as meeting details are available, they will be immediately announced on the code a phone and pilots only web site.

As this next meeting could very well be the discussion of a Tentative Agreement or a final proposal, all pilots are urged to attend. If that indeed occurs, the MEC will then make the determination if this final proposal/agreement would be sent to the membership for ratification.

As reported on previous code a phones, the question still exists if a roll call vote would be utilized to keep the membership from voting on a final proposal, so pilots would be well served by attending this next meeting, or at the very least, contacting your Reps immediately and letting them know your feelings on these negotiations and your participation in this process.

Please note that this hotel does not provide transportation from the airport and that portions of the reconvened meeting may be in closed session.

We realize the anxiety that exists in monitoring the progress of these negotiations. As each day of continued negotiations may impact the time that we have to ballot the membership, it is critical that all pilots stay up to date on the proposals that are submitted during these final days. We still plan on providing you with educational materials, web casts and road shows to assist in your understanding of any prospective tentative agreement, but with the timeframe we now have, it is even more important for all pilots to become familiar with these latest table positions.

As always, please refer to the code a phone and the pilots only website for the latest information on Transformation Plan Negotiations.

Please remember we have 1,879 pilots on furlough.

Thank you for listening.

ALPA provided the company their counterproposal early today at 2:30 a.m. The parties met during the night and now the NC is waiting for the company's response.

A MEC member provided some incorrect information. ALPA is providing the company with its counter proposal this morning around 10:30 a.m. Usair_begins_wiht_u, I have no idea what you're talking about.
