ALPA MEC CODE-A-PHONE UPDATE - September 13, 2004

This is Jack Stephan with a US Airways MEC update for Monday, September 13th, with two new items:

Item 1. First day orders were heard today in the US Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Virginia with Judge Stephen Mitchell presiding. The Company was successful in obtaining virtually all their motions before the court today with a few administrative exceptions. Of particular interest was the approval of the usage of ATSB cash collateral. This interim agreement expires on October 15 and allows the Company to continue to use the funds provided by the terms of the ATSB loan. The new agreement with the ATSB calls for a weekly minimum unspecified cash balance. Also the Company was successful in the motion to continue wage and benefit payments to all employees during the reorganization, with the exception of pre petition pension payments for all existing plans. That motion and objections to such will be heard at a later date.

A meeting will be held on Monday, September 20th, to establish a Creditors Committee and the hiring of Counsel for that Committee. Also, all unions will have until October 4th to decide if they will represent retirees in the Company’s efforts to modify post retiree health benefits.

Please continue to monitor the code a phone and pilots only home page for the latest information on bankruptcy proceedings. The Comm Center is now open to address any concerns you may have on the bankruptcy process as well as the status of Transformation Plan Negotiations.

Item 2. The Central Air Safety Committee reminds all pilots that the filing of Chapter 11 bankruptcy has triggered a mandatory response by the FAA that requires increased FAA and Company surveillance of flight operations and maintenance. Expect additional line checks from the FAA and an increase of Company enroute observations. Maintenance falls under a similar type of Quality Assurance Assessment of its various departments and functions.

Adherence to established SOPs and Standards will demonstrate to our passengers and fellow crewmembers the US Airways pilots’ unwavering commitment to safety.

Should circumstances require, please utilize all the Safety Programs available including ASAP and NASA ASRS Reports.

Please contact the CASC Chairman Steve Skupien or a member of the Committee with any questions. Their numbers are listed in the committee pages of US AIRWAVES and on the pilots only website under “MEC Directory.â€￾

Please remember we have 1,879 pilots on furlough.

Respectfully,

USA320Pilot
