America West With New PIT Service...

Will US match this service.....lots of UA/UAEX service from same shared terminal to CA cities and DEN, etc?

This is EXACTLY what happened at BWI when US cut service there, only it was SW that jumped in. US management doesn't really think that the airport managers are just going to sit and watch their airport be converted to a commuter airline terminal do you?

US matched HP's initial fare sale. No huge suprise there.

AA is offering PIT/CLT and maybe PHL-(all US west coast destinations) for $220. Fully refundable. No saturday stay. US did not match this, and it's been going on since last week.

Guess who just got $2k of my money? At some point I'll throw HP a trip to LA to keep 'em in market, but...

The difference is that while HP did a big press release annoucing their sale (hence compelling US to match), AA did not, and thus the brain-trust in CCY just thought that the lemmings in the hubs (particularly PIT) would miss it.

HP's current CASM is below 8 cents. US's *goal* is to get down to around 10 cents, no? So let's not get into any fare wars with HP.
