In The Wall Street Journal:

The parent of American Airlines reported a $55 million operating profit for May while its cash cushion improved as revenue gains continued to outstrip industry rivals.

The third-largest U.S. carrier by traffic reported a net loss of $132 million for the month, including $134 million in reorganization expenses as it continues the restructuring after filing for bankruptcy protection last November. Parent AMR Corp. (AAMRQ) lost $1.66 billion in the first quarter and $142 million in April, but its revenue performance has continued to improve, with per-passenger sales rising 11.6% last month from a year earlier, well ahead of the industry average. The company revealed the loss in a regulatory filing Tuesday.

AMR's passenger revenue per available seat mile climbed 7.3% in May for its mainline and commuter units following an 11.6% rise in April, outpacing the industry in both periods. Traffic rose 0.4% last month, while capacity fell 0.6%.
