American Airlines says it will continue to allow pets to be checked with luggage despite other U.S.-based airlines’ decision to end the practice.
While Delta recorded the most pet deaths (74) on its aircrafts between May 2005 and September 2015, 49 pets traveling on American Airlines have died in that time period and five have gone missing, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. United Airlines has 59 recorded deaths and Continental Airlines, which merged with United in 2010, had 49 recorded deaths.
