American in talks with GOL to counter the Latam/Delta move

Delta let GOL go. Delta seems to make all the right moves. What is AA going to do with GOL that Delta wasn't interested in? Maybe the Oasis project. LOL.

First off, they jettisoned GOL because the 20% ownership of LATAM that Delta now has makes GOL superflous to Delta.

There isn't anything particularly unique about GOL or LATAM other than the fact that (as I understand it) LATAM is by far the largest South American airline. Many more connections to be had which helps Delta because they are short on Delta flights to Central and South American and they can codeshare passengers into the LATAM connections. Not forgetting that they did not have nearly as many connecting possibilities with GOL. Also it's a stab in AA's ribs to take all those lovely connections away from them and it cost them less than $2billion. Personally, I think it is a deliberate spit in the eye from our friends at Delta. They are doing it because they can.
