NEW YORK (Reuters) - American Airlines' (NYSE:AMR - News) shares could rise 50 percent or more in the next year according to a Barron's report that cited factors such as a potential unit spin-off and an improving balance sheet.

Even a 50% rise in share price would still be below the 52 week high of $41.

Hatu,

Your correct about the 52 week high, but "lets remain optimistic" !
(YES, even "I" can be(sometimes) optimistic.

However, with regard to a "unit spinoff", I do NOT support ANYTHING that would cost AA/Union jobs, no matter how much MONEY was Involved !!!!!

If Arpey ever sold off AE, then I would surmise that the dude has flipped his "toupe"!!

I think AMR will be very cautious in spinning off any pieces of the company. AMR took a hard hit after 9/11, and the spinning off of Sabre made it worse.

Selling off profitable units when the whole is barely making a profit would only help in the short run for a stock bolster.

Specially after today, 10/02/07 with the stock up almost 7%(up $1.59 per share). They can hold off selling anything if they can continue to report good numbers like they did today for Sept.
