Been watching the share price over the last week and ever since The FL Group raised hell, the price has been rising.

Opinion - either investors are starting to bet FL may force by threat AMR to begin operating as a real business and not as an executive piggy-bank, or they're buying more shares and getting ready for a proxy fight.

Should be rather interesting (perhaps comical) in the time leading up to the next annual meeting, but rest assured, there's no silver lining for the employees.

They already have enough shares for a proxy fight, and have had for some time.

The key is to keep an eye on the board. If any of them start resigning/retiring in the very near future, you'll know something is about to hit the fan.

Looks to me like AMR has simply been tracking with the DJIA, taking a hit after FL made their announcement, and then recovering quite nicely...

I'm reading the chart a bit differently than you, evidently.

I see a greater gain after FL's announcement than before, where it looks almost flat save for the dip around the 6th.

Somebody's buying.

Well, that's the nice thing about stock analysis -- people see it differently, otherwise nobody would be making money...

The chart below contrasts AMR with CAL, and with the DJ Airline Index. AMR's performance over the past year seems to track fairly well with CAL, and is also in line with the index. So, someone may be buying, but it's not just a single investment bank like FL buying up just AMR. It seems to be an across the board trend.

Sorry - didn't mean to imply it was a single entity doing the buying. I do believe FL is in the soup somewhere. It'll be hard to tell until they file their next 13d reporting the quarter's purchases, if any.

As I recall, the 13d gets filed once per year unless there's a change in the beneficially owned amounts, in which case the form is filed with the SEC after the quarter the activity took place, buy or sell. Have to wait until January or February as they just recently filed showing their 9.1% stake.

CAL doesn't seem to have this kind of activity, but their happenings may not be deemed sufficiently "newsworthy" as those of AMR obviously are.

No doubt FL is pissed because of getting burned with their investment. My question is how far they will go over and above attempting to recoup their losses with a short-term fix such as selling Advantage, just long enough to recoup and get out, leaving a pile ala Ichan. If they're truly vindictive (which we see much of today in the glorious world of business), they'll try to can a good deal of the board replacing them with their own people, which in turn will not bode well for Arpey and minions - all finance people with no clue as to how to run a business except by the numbers, which we all know doesn't really work over the long haul as it irreparably damages many aspects of a company's well being, employee morale being the first to suffer. From that point on, it's a slippery slope, but that's not what's taught in CPA/Business Finance school; only black and white are considerations and gray areas abound when dealing with people.
