An Amtrak train bound for Washington pulled away from Penn Station on Saturday without some pretty important cargo: its passengers.

Scores of travelers were stranded after the Acela Express 2253 took off from one platform about 3 p.m. while they were waiting at another and unaware the train was leaving them behind.

"They literally sent us to the wrong platform, and the conductor took off without any passengers," said Damien Miano, 60, of Chelsea. "The right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. It was just so bizarre."

According to the terminal manager, it was the first time he'd heard of it.

Seems to me the conductor should have noticed when boarding time came and went and nobody showed up that something was wrong. Apparently they don't have gate agents to tell them it's good to go.

So it was an accident/screw up that happens to every company somewhere every day.  In other words nothing new or original except if a person likes to slam a federally funded company and hold them to a different standard than everyone else.

BUT, unlike every PRIVATE company the dim bulbs responsible will still have jobs.

Great reply.................Comrade !

These people who denounce the State, should be imprisoned.....................or worse!

How many airline employees here have screwed up? Should they all lose their job? Are they "dim bulbs"?

How many airline employees have closed the door on an airplane without noticing if there were customers onboard?...

Regardless of who did what or who they work for, it's not just a vanilla screw-up. If this were an airline or a for-profit railroad, I'd be poking fun at it as well.

Bottom line is that this only happens when you lack common sense or don't think you're in a customer service business.

As they should. I'd hate to work for a company that cans people for innocent mistakes.

The stupid and lazy are attracted to UNION jobs because they can not retain employment anywhere else. Unfortunately it gives the good UNION employees a bad name.

UNIONS today are 10 percent of the employees pulling the cart for the other 90 percent.

UNIONS would do well to let companies "clean house" of some of the dead weight once in a while.

The passengers were probably late getting on the train because Bears was too busy eating a UNION lunch to sell them tickets.
